The best competitor ad intelligence tools
Updated: · PPCradar by Modernitos · how we work

Contents
Competitor ad intelligence tools show you which keywords your competitors buy, which ads they run and how much paid traffic they get. They are estimates, not their account data, but they are enough to spot gaps, inspire copy and anticipate moves. This shortlist brings together three paid tools with different approaches and Google's official free alternative.

1. Semrush Advertising: the most complete for Google and Meta
According to the Advertising toolkit pricing page, the Base plan includes competitor keyword analysis, Google Shopping ads research, competitors' ad positions and copy, AI recommendations and a unified Google and Meta dashboard. Pro adds AdClarity, with all competitor ads —display, video and social— and competitor landing page views.
Who it's for: agencies and advertisers working on Google and Meta who want ad and keyword research in one place. We compare it with SE Ranking in Semrush vs SE Ranking.
2. SpyFu: long history at a low price
The SpyFu pricing page shows Basic at $39/month (10,000 rows per search and export, 1 user), Pro + AI at $59 for the first month and $119/month thereafter (unlimited results and exports) and Team/Agency at $249/month with 5 users. All include 10+ years of history and pre-built Google Ads campaigns; annual billing saves 25%, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee and you can cancel any time.
Who it's for: freelancers and small businesses focused on Google Ads who want to see which keywords and ads a competitor has tested over the years.
3. Similarweb: the full traffic picture
Similarweb didn't start as an ads tool but as web intelligence: it estimates the traffic and channels of any domain. On its packages page (Entrepreneurs tab), Competitive Intelligence costs $125/month billed annually or $199 monthly, with 1 user and 3 months of history; the Competitive Intel, SEO & AEO & Ads package costs $542/month annual or $649 monthly and includes ad intelligence: creative and campaign insights, search and display, advertiser demand signals and ad spend.
Who it's for: marketing teams that need to understand the market and their rivals' channel mix, not just their ads.
4. Google Ads Transparency Center: free and official
The Ads Transparency Center is a public Google repository. According to its help page, you can search advertisers by name or website and see the ads they've run on Search, Display, Gmail and YouTube, filtering by date and location. It doesn't show keywords, bids or budgets.
Who it's for: anyone who wants to see a competitor's real ads without paying, as a first step before buying a tool.
How to choose
- Start free: Google's Transparency Center shows which ads a competitor runs.
- Google paid keywords on a small budget: SpyFu Basic.
- Google and Meta, plus display, video and social: Semrush Advertising Pro.
- Market, channels and ads in one report: Similarweb with the Ads package.
Our opinion
For a PPC manager, SpyFu offers the best balance of price and Google ad history, and Semrush Advertising is the most complete option if you also work on Meta and display. Similarweb pays off when the question is "where does my competitor get traffic from", not just "what do they advertise". Before paying for any of them, check the Transparency Center: sometimes it's enough. PPCradar currently has no affiliate agreement with any of these tools. If we did, the links would say so.
